Advocacy Manager

Job Details

The Advocacy Manager owns the development of NCJW PGH’s advocacy priorities. Monitoring relevant local, regional, and PA statewide policy, the Advocacy Manager, working closely with the Senior Director of Social Impact, will identify opportunities and develop strategy  for systems change in NCJW PGH’s pillars of impact. In addition, this role collaborates regularly with the Community Engagement Manager to support direct service, events, education, and other programming.

This is a full time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

Policy Analysis  and  Strategy Development

  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of relevant current state and local policy proposals and coalition agendas within advocacy pillars 
  • Work closely with Senior Director of Social Impact to identify campaign objectives and strategies related to identified advocacy pillars
  • Lead implementation of local and state policy agendas
  • Serve as policy liaison with NCJW Inc, State Policy Advocates and NCJW Section Network programs regarding shared advocacy pillars 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant national and federal policies and initiatives regarding identified advocacy pillars 

Partnerships 

  • Identify and build relationships with a diverse network of local, regional, and state individuals/organizations engaging in shared advocacy work 
  • Represent NCJW PGH in, and at times lead, relevant local, regional, and statewide coalitions of advocacy groups and changemakers 
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers at the local and state level

Strategic Communications 

  • Work closely with Senior Director of Social Impact and Community Engagement Manager  to establish department communications objectives 
  • Develop standard language, e.g. talking points, for deployment in public communication channels, and draft content where applicable 
  • Complete and present quarterly reports using qualitative and quantitative data based on department objectives 
  • Support content development and contribute to advocacy-related foundation applications and reports for awarded grants 
  • Support staff and network advocates in direct and grassroots advocacy communications, education, and training

Other 

  • Supervise interns as assigned 
  • Support NCJW PGH events and activities as needed
  • Track and record key data points and metrics in organization’s databases, as needed
  • Act as a role model and leader, inspire the team around advocacy agendas and organizational values 
  • Attend relevant department and organization wide meetings 
  • Attend relevant trainings and educational opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5 years of experience in program management, systems change, policy, advocacy, or other relevant field 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and adapt advocacy campaign strategies in changing contexts; familiarity and comfort with systems-based approaches to change.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication 
  • Experience in project management
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding the lived experiences of served community
  • Able to connect with individuals and build alliances among a wide range of players in the region and state. Works well with diverse or marginalized populations; can bring in allies across diverse communities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must be able to spend long periods conducting computer work 
  • Must be able to travel to Harrisburg or other out-of-city locations on an occasional basis 
  • Must be able to periodically work evenings and/or weekends
