Thriftique is a popular, mission-focused social enterprise resale shop selling carefully curated, designer-centric inventory. All sales, community outreach, and partnerships support the National Council of Jewish Women Pittsburgh’s mission to support increased equity through the empowerment of women. Thriftique directly supports NCJW’s work advocating for reproductive justice, preserving democracy, and inclusive and equitable workplaces.

In our 8,400 sq foot shop in the heart of Lawrenceville, Thriftique sells high-quality, new and gently used clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, accessories, home goods, art, books, and furniture at affordable prices.

JOB DETAILS

The Director of Retail Operations is a member of NCJW Pittsburgh’s leadership team. They are responsible for the success of Thriftique, both as a profitable social enterprise which supports NCJW’s programmatic and advocacy work, and as an inclusive, community-centric local business in the Lawrenceville neighborhood. 

This position oversees the strategic operations of Thriftique while maintaining an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for customers, volunteers, and staff; and understanding and upholding the mission of NCJW Pittsburgh.

This is a full time position.

$65k - $70k per year, commensurate with experience. Paid time off. Paid holidays. Employee discount at Thriftique. Health, Dental, & Vision insurance. STD/LTD insurance. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

Daily Operations

  • Hire, train, and manage program staff

    • Provide leadership for all staff through guidance and professional development and establish an expectation of excellence

    • Build, train, and maintain a roster of volunteers

    • Conduct periodic performance check-ins / goal setting meetings

    • Follow and ensure that all staff are compliant with NCJW PGH organizational policies and procedures

    • Act as redundancy to staff in so far as it does not infringe on other duties

  • Build, monitor, and report on budget and actuals with the support of ED and Admin Director

    • Set and communicate realistic sales goals

    • Code and submit all receipts in a timely manner

    • Submit bi-weekly payroll reports to financial admin

  • Present regular, detailed reports with metrics connected to sales and programmatic goals

  • Maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies

  • Communicate regularly with NCJW regarding resource needs and changes in programming

  • Ensure the safety and maintenance of retail building and vehicles, including vendor management

  • Maintain all required licenses and inspections

  • Manage and report on relevant grant funding with assistance from the Admin Director and Development Director

  • Plan and oversee promotions, sales, and events

Strategic

  • Develop and evaluate initiatives to increase store revenues and profitability of retail operations for Thriftique, including operational changes and efficiencies, marketing, social media, and PR

  • Meet regularly with appropriate committee/volunteer leadership to review strategic and operational recommendations and set short and long term goals 

  • Evaluate impact areas and collaborate with Senior Director of Community Engagement to develop key growth areas and community partnerships

  • Work in tandem with Development Director to identify and secure grant opportunities and sponsorship leads for events

Leadership

  • Attend all NCJW Pittsburgh staff meetings and trainings as deemed necessary by the Executive Director

  • Support other departments and projects as needed

  • Maintain a physically and emotionally safe cultural environment

  • Promote a positive attitude in regards to the importance of all NCJW departments

  • Collaborate with organizational leadership

  • Be well versed in high level initiatives of all departments

QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5 years of retail operational and/or retail service management experience

  • Degree or relevant experience in marketing, resale, non-profit, event planning, and/or retail service operations

  • Experience with photography, fashion, and/or graphic design a plus

  • Proficient with GSuite and Microsoft related applications as well as popular social media platforms

  • Ability to operate Point of Sale system

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • The employee is frequently required to stand for a minimum of 4-6 hours; and lift and/or move 50 lbs

  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch on a frequent basis

  • Ability to climb a ladder and balance on an occasional basis
